Assessment of Paintless Dent Removal

Paintless dent removal (or PDR) is relatively a new and unique art of pushing or pulling dents using special techniques. The technique was developed thirty years ago to repair small dents that happened during manufacturing or delivery of up market cars.

PDR, one of the latest methods of car dent removal uses different techniques for levering or easing the dent back into its original shape. The gentle procedure is used to remove the dent and to return the car to its look before the dent occurred. This less time consuming method is preferred by both workshop owners and car owners because it is faster and the look after the work is also quite impressive. A small dent might take an hour or two, while a larger dent would need few hours.

Location of dents also decides on the time taken for repair. As most of the repairs of the dents are usually made from the rear side, access to them could be hindered different car parts.

If the paint work is not damaged, then PDR is best suitable. Paint technologists have done a thorough research and concluded that there is no evidence of adhesion breakdown.

Sever damages like metal stretch or paint crack cannot be repaired by PDR. These damages should be repaired and paint re-sprayed using conventional panel shop methods. Car line dents or paint creases can be repaired only in few cases. The severity of these creases decides the time needed and feasibility of repair with PDR. A thorough inspection by the technician could help decide if this type of repair is cost effective or not. This full lifetime guarantee repair work is undetectable and is cost effective only for minor damages. The quality of repair work and maintenance of owner are also deciding factors for the repair’s life.
